Cascade Virtual Option does not have a designated College and Career Center.  We will do our best to get you as much information as possible on this site, as well as through your mentors and Advisory session.  You are strongly encouraged to find the College and Career website from your neighborhood school for any college visits, or events they may be hosting.

Requesting a Transcript Guidelines

  1. If you need an unofficial transcript, please email Ms. Mitchell, our Registrar; to request one.  ammitchell1@seattleschools.org
  2. If your application is on Common App & Coalition platform, add your School Counselor to your profile on the platform (Cascade VO Counselor is Carly Baker. crowens@seattleschools.org) Your school counselor will send your transcript for you directly through that platform (depending on the school – i.e. UW does not require a transcript).
  3. Former Cascade VO HS students, if it has been more than 2 years since you’ve graduated or withdrawn from Cascade VO, please contact Seattle Public Schools Student Records online or via phone 206-252-0139.

Washington Guaranteed Admissions Program

Students in SPS are now eligible for the new Washington Guaranteed Admissions Program. Students who have a 3.0 GPA or higher and meet college admissions course requirements (also known as CADRs) will be accepted to the following universities: Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, The Evergreen State College, University of Washington Tacoma, Washington State University, Western Washington University. Learn more on the district website or reach out to your Ballard HS Counselor.

University of Washington Common App Webinars

Do you have questions about the UW first-year application on the Common App? Join UW reps online for a live webinar to get your questions answered. All webinars are Oct. & Nov. from 4–5 p.m. Learn more about UW Common App Webinars.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Seniors: Are you applying to WSU? Do you have at least a 3.8 GPA? If so, let your school counselor know to be considered for the WSU Regents Scholarship worth $4000/year for four years for a total of $16,000! WSU is looking for students with outstanding academic potential who have demonstrated leadership through contribution to community, family and/or school activities. If you are nominated as a Regents Scholar, you will then compete for the Distinguished Regents Scholars Award, which covers full tuition and fees for four years, approximately $42,000. Contact your school counselor by Mon, Oct. 27 to be considered for this scholarship.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships a system of education & training using a planned, closely supervised combination of hands-on, on-the-job training, and academic classroom-style education. 

  • Seattle City Light Apprenticeship program– training for a variety of craft positions in the electrical utility industry. Visit the Seattle City Light website for more details.
  • ANEW -Offers high-quality, pre-apprenticeship training programs that help individuals obtain careers in construction trades. Visit the ANEW website for more information.

Gap Year

Gap Year Opportunities. A gap year is typically a year break before college during which students engage in various educational & developmental activities such as travel or work.

Military

  • If you’re thinking of enlisting, start with some research
  • It’s a big decision you’ll have important choices to make when you sign up
  • As an active duty enlisted member, you’ll learn job specialty and do hands on work.  You’ll sign a contract, usually for 4 years.
  • The military has 5 branches: Airforce, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, & Navy.  Each has it’s own focus, job specialties, base locations and more.

Washington College Grant | Career Training

  • Makes education and training beyond high school affordable. ​
  • Beginning in 2021, more low-and middle-income families now qualify.
  • What does it cover? The maximum award amount will cover full tuition at any approved in-state public college or university, including community or technical colleges, or provide a comparable amount toward tuition and other education-related costs at an approved private college or career training program.
