Class Schedule for Fall Semester
Quick Glance Schedules by Grade
This semester’s schedule priorities
- There is K8 coverage in ELA, Math, Art, and Science (some as integrated courses with ELA and/or Math).
- The class schedule is built to accommodate a variety of student learning and family scheduling needs- Mon/Wed/Friday classes, Tue/Thursday classes, morning and afternoon offerings with contractors mixed in to provide as much grade band coverage as possible throughout the week.
- Lab classes will continue to be offered M-Th afternoons.
- Don’t forget clubs are a great way to add to students’ learning plans!
Changes in Class Registration for the Fall
Out of Grade Band Requests – Families will now wait until Add/Drop opens to request classes one grade level above or below the student’s grade. See section below regarding OGB requests.
Advanced Learning Designations – Students are now designated as HCC or AL in either math, reading, or both. Students designated as AL or HC can request classes above grade level within their designations during class registration. If you don’t know your student’s new designation, please check in the Source. You can also ask your counselor or main office staff.
What’s new with contractor classes?!
Martial Arts with Sensei Jodi is offered for K-2 and 3-5 students and will be meeting 2x per week instead of just once.
Due to the popularity of this class, 5-8 Film making with NW Film Camp on Friday afternoons is being offered again at Cascade as part of the Creative Advantage arts program. Students who have not had the class yet will have priority.
Jennifer is offering:
- K-3 and 4-7 Cascade Adventures – Fall Edition on Monday mornings featuring baking, sewing/weaving, drumming, and group exercise for the K-2 with our Aegis neighbors.
- Piano is moving to Wednesday mornings and will include K-3 and 4-8 beginning classes as well as a K-8 independent class for those with experience.
- Guitar is offered as a K-8 independent class on Friday at 9:30.
- Musical Theater! Our K-4 kids get to put on a show! The class is offered Wednesday morning.
- The ever popular K-3 Recess Games will be back on Fridays at 10:00.
BEAM is offering:
- Beginning and advanced levels of Dungeon Master Academy (D&D) for grades 3-5 (beginning) and 4-8 (advanced). Thursdays 9:00 and 10:30
- Grades 4-8 NEW – QUEST MAKER: Adventure Game Design class for those interested in building their coding skills! Tuesdays 10:30
- Our K-3 kids will have fun in a Bricks 4 Kidz Lego class that incorporates both instructional and creative builds. Fridays 11:00
Out of Grade Band Requests – Certificated Classes Only
NEW PROCESS: OGB requests will now be submitted after class registration using the add/drop process starting on June 8th.
You will no longer see the option to request OGB classes on the class registration form. Please register for classes within the students grade level during class registration (HC/AL Exceptions).
Starting on June 8th, students may request certificated classes one grade level above or below their own grade level using the add/drop form.
Please do not request approval from the teacher. While a teacher can recommend the placement, they cannot approve without team discussion.
The team (teacher, counselor, principal and Special Education teacher if applicable) will discuss the request. If approved the student will be placed in the class or added to the waitlist if the class is full.
Why the change? This new process helps simplify the class registration process and avoids extra confusion. It ensures that every student is first requesting a certificated class within the grade band in case the desired OGB class is full. Using the add/drop form allows for more nuanced schedule changes than can be accomplished during class registration. Since the add/drop period is now opening right after class registration is complete, we can take care of OGB requests sooner than before. This will be much easier for parents and the registrar. Win/win!
Advanced Learning – HC and AL Class Registration Information
- It is strongly recommended that you check with your counselor before requesting an above grade level class during registration.
- NEW AL/HCC DESIGNATIONS: For 2026-27 advanced learning students are now designated AL or HC in math, reading, or both. Students will be able to choose classes above grade level within their new designations. Check with us if you are not sure what your student’s designation is.
- Advanced learning students can request certificated Math and ELA classes outside of the their grade level unless otherwise noted in the course catalog and depending on their designation.
- Cascade staff (teacher, counselor, principal, Special Education teacher – if applicable) reserve the right to refuse above grade level requests based on social/emotional needs, class content, and for other reasons based on their professional judgement. Remember this means your student could be in class with older students rather than peers.
- Other Certificated Classes and Electives – All other certificated classes (science, drama, art, etc.) and all electives taught by our contractors are not subject to advanced learning privileges. Students will stay in their grade band for these classes.
About the Class Request Form
Class registration forms will be sent out Tuesday, May 26th and are due Friday, May 29th by 4 p.m.
All forms submitted before the deadline will be processed together, this is NOT first come first served.
The form closes on Friday May 26th at 4 p.m. on Friday. Please contact Aldona for a new registration form link if you miss the deadline (don’t miss the deadline!).
ammitchell1@seattleschools.org
Late forms will be processed at the end of registration. Students are placed in classes if there is space, and last on any waitlists.
- Due Date: You have until Friday, May 29th, 4 p.m. to submit the form for each of your students. This is not first come first served, so take some time to plan your student’s schedule. But, the deadline is 4 p.m. on Friday. Don’t be late!
- Read the class descriptions in the course catalog.
- Double Check! Check that none of your requested classes overlap with another requested class!! Again, this is not first come, first served, so check your work! The registrar will not be responsible for mistakes made while filling out the form.
- Fill Out Class Request Form: Once you have your student’s schedule all planned out, fill out the class request form (you will receive the form by email on Tuesday May 26th)
- Oops! I Made a Mistake: If you realize you made a mistake or need to make. a change, you can fill out a new form with the correct information up until the deadline, May 29th at 4 p.m.
- Can’t I just call or email Aldona with the changes I want to make? Sorry, no! Please fill out a new form. This helps me keep the data all neat and tidy. It’s best for everyone!
How are class requests processed?
After registration ends, we start placing students based on their priority:
- First-choice requests are filled first.
- If seats remain, second-choice requests are added.
- Then third-choice, and so on until the class is full.
If more students request a class at the same priority level than there are seats, we use a lottery.
Students who requested the class but didn’t get in are placed on a waitlist. Waitlist order is based on priority and lottery.
Viewing Your Student’s New Schedule
Student Schedules Will Be Posted in ALE/School Data Solutions on June 5th by the end of the day!
- How Do I Access ALE? If you have not yet learned how to log into our student data system, ALE, please contact your counselor for training.
- When will I see my student’s new schedule? Student schedules will be posted in ALE by the end of day on June 5th. We will not be emailing schedule and waitlist information. This information is conveniently located in ALE (except new students, see note below).
- What to expect on June 5th
- Once schedules are complete, all families will be notified via text and email by the end of the day.
- Please refrain from calling/ emailing the office with questions about your student’s schedule before that notification. If you check too soon, you may be seeing partial information.
- My suggestion – don’t look until you receive the text/email saying schedules are complete!
Note: If you have enrolled a new student for next year, you won’t be able to see that student in ALE until the new student begins attending classes. New student schedules and waitlist information will be emailed to you instead.
Requesting Classes: Do’s and Don’ts
- Do submit your class request form on time.
- Do request classes within your student’s grade level (HC/AL exceptions)
- Out-Of-Grade level requests can be submitted when the add/drop window opens on June 8th.
- Do read class descriptions in the course catalog so you know what you’re signing up for.
- Do make sure your requests:
- Don’t overlap.
- Fit your student’s grade level.
- Work with your family’s schedule.
- Do double-check your form—registrar is not responsible for mistakes.
- Do fill out a new class request form if you need to make changes or corrections. The time/date stamp will let me know which is the updated form.
Don’ts
- Don’t request classes you don’t really want.
- This causes overfilled classes and extra work for staff.
- Don’t Request both sections of the same class (choose either A or B).
- Don’t Request “backup” classes. You will be able to make schedule changes when Add/Drop opens on June 8th.
- Conflicting or duplicate (both sections of the same class) requests will be crossed off.
- Don’t request classes out of grade band (HC/AL exceptions).
- OGB requests begin on June 8th using the Add/Drop form.
Add/Drop Information
- Opens June 8th
- Add/Drop form will be on the Cascade website under Forms (link will be sent out when open).
- Forms are processed in order received.
- Certificated classes: Changes to cert classes are allowed through the first 2 weeks of semester.
- Electives: Changes to electives are allowed through the first half of semester.
- Families can make out-of-grade band requests when add/drop opens.
Lab Classes Information
Lab classes are included in the course catalog, but are requested through your counselor. You will not sign up for Labs during class registration. Talk to your counselor!
Lab Classes are designed for students below grade level in math or ELA.
- Students are recommended by a teacher/counselor/SpEd case manager or can be requested by the parent and would be approved or denied by the lab teacher, counselor and/or SpEd case manager.
Notes:
- These classes Do count as one of your allowed number of classes.
- Seats are limited and waitlists maintained throughout the semester.
- Students may be exited prior to the end of the semester if skill mastery is achieved. For this reason, students must also have another certificated class on their schedule besides Lab.
To request a lab class, please contact your counselor, Ann or Debi.
Parent Led/Coordinated Classes
Remember, being a part of our Parent Partnership means that while students learn from our Cascade teachers, most of their learning happens outside of Cascade with the parent/ guardian leading or coordinating classes.
Be ready to list your parent led/coordinated classes when you fill out the class registration form including class title, hours per week, and materials/curriculum you will be using.
Full Time or Part Time?
Full or part time is determined by the number of hours per week on your learning plan.
Full Time = 28 hours combined classes at Cascade and classes led/coordinated by the parent.
Part Time = No more than 22 hours of combined Cascade classes (up to 3) and parent led/ coordinated classes
Even students taking only 1 Cascade class can still be considered full time because of the independent learning hours on the learning plan.
Please ask your counselor if you are not sure of your student’s status.
